It hangs in tatters, though. The courts really let us down, or the federal government would be less than half its current size and scope.

@anilin6353 That was their big problem. It was also a big problem for them for years after that. Tariffs and excise taxes are all the federal government should have for revenue.

@l337pwnage It was pretty much a package deal. There were states that wouldn't ratify without the promise of the first 10 amendments. And yes, government is a protection/extortion racket. But without one, you get eaten by nations with one.
