  1. I like Dreyfuss a lot more than I did 30 or 40 years ago, when he was a knee-jerk, big-government liberal (which isn't at all liberal, by the way). Now he's educated himself, and is a true liberal, which society now says is "MAGA Republican."

  2. The welfare state is not liberal. Government-run health is not liberal. Government regulation of speech is not liberal. Government-run education is not liberal. These are all top-down, authoritarian enterprises, systems of CONTROL implemented by fascists and pre-fascists in Germany in the 19th Century. It's all just a way of securing unquestioning loyalty from people whose ability to think and ask questions are systematically eroded by government taking responsibility for individuals' well-being, which ALWAYS means giving the state authority over every aspect of your life. True liberals understand that limited government is the key to liberty, prosperity, an even playing field, and equal opportunity. To be a true liberal, you will be demonized as a right-wing, racist white supremacist. And homophobic, transphobic and misogynistic.
