@Emanuel-t5e Bismarck brought Germany socialist health care, because it worked so well for the Krupp family (arms manufacturers). Not only did Krupp Steel provide health care, cheap food, and other services in what by all accounts were well-run "company towns" that became the model for national socialism. I think Bismarck really liked the blind loyalty of the workers to the company and he wanted that for his ruling Junker class. Krupp even included a loyalty OATH from its employees. Bismarck REALLY liked THAT. You want people to blindly follow you, just make them dependent on you. That's what the German aristocracy discovered in the 19th Century, so the German people were already primed to go along. That's one of the big reasons I don't like nationalizing health care. The more the government does FOR you, the more it can do TO you, and the less likely it is that you will object.
