  1. This will all change when government becomes the sole rationer of health care. Being overweight will place a larger burden on the health care system, and people who are denied care because it's being rationed will quickly turn on overweight people. "How could you be so selfish?" In a FREE society, your decision to be overweight is YOURS and you are the only one who bears the consequences, not counting the person next to you on the plane. In a collectivist society, your being overweight is a burden on everyone else. These body-positive-type collectivists will be tormenting overweight people in the streets, before long, if we ever go full-on socialized medicine, because they will be blamed for the waiting line at the clinic or the lack of resources at the clinic. While I think it's good to donate to hospitals if you want, and that's truly virtuous, I don't think it's virtuous to demand the government come in and pay for everything. We'll get more of what we see, now, which is an entire bureaucrat class sucking the life blood out of health care dollars (like vampires), not just for their salaries, but with red tape that makes physicians spend up to 1/3 of their work day filling out forms for the bureaucrats, instead of treating patients.
