  1.  @henrikljungstrand2036  It all flows from "I am" and "Life is good." I think that's why people call God the Great I Am. To me, it's an attempted distillation of universal and self-evident truths that all flow from "Life Is Good" and "I Am" is the fundamental assertion of self-awareness. I don't see that as necessarily mystical, and I don't have to believe in some anthropomorphic, yet invisible sky god to believe in those fundamental truths. I can respect Creation and be grateful to Creation and the Big Is, without getting denominational or Hindu or Abrahamic to glean wisdom from all of the above. I think of the Bible as a collection of some of our greatest hits! In many ways a blueprint for tribal survival that stood the test of time, and is not to be dismissed lightly. But it's still a work of imperfect humans, and when the law says one thing and reason says another, ya gotta be a heretic.

In the end, she's supportive of big institutions with overwhelming power and scope to do the most good, and she'll always be shocked when these too-powerful institutions get things wrong and suddenly, out of nowhere, tyranny. People like her are too clever by half. They can sustain delusions over long spans of time with increasingly clever mental gymnastics.

  3. Satire is of the outsiders looking in. It is innately a tool of the left. Suppressing satire as "hate speech" or "sedition" is a hallmark of the right. So who is liberal and who is regressive in today's society?

  4. Just wanted to apologize for lowering the level of conversation. I do a lot of writing to hash things out in my mind. Put the impressions down as they're occurring. It's very self-indulgent, and I apologize.

  5. She's conflating physical attractiveness with actual life-mate choices. However great-looking a woman thinks a man is, she's unlikely to consider a man marriage material if he isn't somewhat economically successful and have some degree of high social status. Women DO mate across and UP in the hierarchy. She's not going to dismiss the FACT of hypergamy that easily. "Respectfully." Don't smirk when you say "respectfully." It's disrespectful.

  6. Liberals took over the establishment, making them essentially conservative in outlook. Different world view than the previous conservatives, but by definition, preserving and consolidating their political gains MADE them conservative! I first conceived this idea as a visiting professor in an insular mountain town that had a small college attached to it. Everyone at the college was pretty far left, and that created a weird, twisted orthodoxy from which no one dared depart for fear of losing social status in the college. Everybody had the same opinion about everything, and they were unaware of how "conservative" and regressive their behavior was. Anyway, I've always been a bit of a contrarian/iconoclast. I was just as rebellious and irreverent in the '70s being forced to go to church, as I was in the 2000s, where the ruling religion was leftist ideology at work. I say "leftist ideology" because it's the modern use of the term, but the minute you go from speaking truth to power and being suspicious of concentrated power to celebrating MORE centralized authority (for your own good), you cease being of the left and have become a creature of the regressive right.

What the so-called left didn't realize - and still doesn't - that they crossed a philosophical Rubicon a long time ago, when they abandoned actual liberalism and gave the state responsibility for everything, while still expecting to have authority over their own lives. That's not how it works. If you want authority, you must first take responsibility. When you give up responsibility, you give up authority. There's no two ways about it. Now, confronted by the beast they've created, they're STILL not asking the right questions or for the right things. They want the all-powerful state to operate morally and without error. They're still not doubting their decision to make the state responsible for everything under the sun. It's a death spiral of giving too much power to a few and then being endlessly shocked and disappointed at the results. I see no way out. It's a delusion that feeds on itself until everybody's absolutely miserable, and the whole thing collapses, with little hope of ever getting anywhere close to where you were before you started handing over more and more power to the state.

The minute the so-called left started demanding - and getting - huge transfers of wealth written into law, they ceased being liberals and rode the demagogue train to control of the establishment. But liberals deny the inextricability of authority from responsibility. They insist that nanny government and liberty are not diametrically opposed. What's worse is that many who call themselves "liberal" DO see that without responsibility there is no authority, but they think it's OK for the state to dictate to those whom it supports. That's not liberal. It's reactionary, seeking a return to lord and serf, because deep down, they hold their fellow human beings in contempt, and think they NEED to be lorded over, because they're just not as good or as smart as a liberal. Roughly half of the "conservatives" I know are dogmatists steeped in tradition. The other hand are thoughtful liberals who were pushed into a coalition with the regressive right, because the classical liberals want LIMITED government, and resist most of the efforts to expand the welfare state and the public-health establishment on the federal level.
