  2. The ruling elites are in it for the ruling elites. Everything the government does for you, today, is something else it will do FOR you in the future. In the USA, it's not as blatantly government-run media, because the big networks and print outlets are nominally private businesses. But they take their marching orders from elites in state and federal government, which is functionally identical to the CBC in Canada, but more insidious, because it doesn't have the obvious trappings of a federal agency.
