I'm of two minds, knowing a bit of the history of the region. I have no love for CCP, but a lot of sympathy for the Chinese people. I wouldn't do business with the Chinese without 100% transparency and adherence to labor, materials and environmental standards, with the freedom to go where the workers live and see how they live. If they can't be open, they can't do business with us. That's the present. Our own and our English (and Spanish and Portuguese) counterparts' history in the region is pretty checkered. The British forced them to accept opium as a medium of exchange for Chinese goods. The Americans opened-up Japan at gunpoint. Recognizing our past is one thing. Managing our present and future is another. I can totally see why the Chinese wouldn't like us round-eyed hairies. But that doesn't mean we should permit them to be predators in the world markets, either. They'd actually be better off, themselves, if they weren't so aggressive. This whole thing could be win-win for everybody, if CCP would mend its ways and USA could clean the neoliberals and neocons out of our own establishment.
