@a.randomjack6661 Money is a currency of exchange for value. Value is subjective and always must be negotiated. Value need not be exchanged in chits or counters of value, although they are very convenient for obtaining what you want.
Where you and I agree is that the "grow or die" attitude is very bad. Selling me a new car every year or five years, when a car (or phone) should last for decades is very wasteful.
Left to its own devices, the market will select for the most responsible and enlightened behavior by all, including manufacturers, where a combination of price point and responsibility to the customer, planet, and public determines the market choices of an informed consumer.
It's not perfect, but it's as close to perfect as you can get, and now that more people care about the planet, the market will push things in that direction. You can't legislate this kind of thing. The lawyers and the donor class love complicated rules. Who will watch the watchers?
