Trump took the exact line needed to become president. Talk about peace and keep AIPAC happy, simultaneously. We took the bait and voted for the Republican candidate, because the Democrats are so bad. I hoped for an alternative to forever war and big government. I got forever war and big government. We the people need to get our shit together.

Bipartisan evil.

@thegloriouscull Oct. 7th was the beginning of world history, obviously.

johnnicholoft6163 Surely it's more of a mix of positive and negative personalities and actions, than some imaginary being's machinations. But if archetypes help you classify the phenomena of the world around you, it can be helpful. It's also dangerous, because gazing upon evil too much can trick you into a game of lesser evils. The only way to really win is to be smart enough and thoughtful enough to prevail without doing harm. This is hard to do, because one wishes to extirpate ALL evil, and the only way to do that is to do evil, oneself. Jesus won by losing in one of the most horrible ways possible.

@Able60 Whom are you quoting? If it's yours, then well-put.

@1974Qball He has definitely refrained from repudiating the neocon world view. Ukraine and Israel are the two most pressing examples. Honestly, I have less problem with Russia and Iran than I have with American, British and European neocons.

johnnicholoft6163 Doing evil is evil. Full stop. If you become what you hate to destroy what you hate, you have lost and are lost.

johnnicholoft6163 You so want to be righteous, to justify the evil you want to do. You refuse to see my reasoning, out of childish clinging to anger and hate.

The mental gymnastics it takes to justify bombing villages from the air in peacetime and at the same time condemn suicide bombings... It's off the charts. Violence for political ends (war) is OK if you have enough fancy equipment, but it's not OK if you're reduced to strapping bombs to yourself. Reminds me of the scene from "Godfather II," when a revolutionary jumps into a military vehicle full of Batista soldiers with a grenade. The Batista rep shakes his head scornfully at the mad communists. Michael sees the same thing and observes "That means they can win." He saw the corrupt and oppressive Batista government as brittle, which it was, and he backed out of the deal with Hyman Roth (Meyer Lansky fictionalized). You don't eliminate terrorism by being terrible. You minimize terrorism by minding your own business. No one nation is big enough to conquer the world. Any time one tries, the rest of the world is more than capable of allying against it, naturally. Enough of these "pre-emptive" wars and regime-change operations.

@PaulH24752 You're wrong. All of our military actions have helped a small number of people who profit by war. Weapons manufacturers and all their bought-and-paid-for politicians; Billionaires who always have the resources to get in on the ground floor of the post-war re-build. After LA is done burning, there are going to be some very rich people who buy up the land for dirt cheap and get paid for the re-build. Nobody did anything when they did this in Hawaii. We're seeing it being prepared in blue cities in the best locations all over the USA. Politicians profit by war. There're piles of money, everywhere, and nothing but praise for spending more. A nice cushy job awaits upon retirement and/or your cronies profit from their holdings in armaments manufacturers. In times of high unemployment, many young men will join and remain in the military, because it's one of the few ways to bring in money to the family. So there's a slice of society that's getting a hand up via government (taxpayer) largesse, albeit at some risk to life and limb. Things get bad enough, the risk seems worth the reward. There's always a segment of the lower classes that feeds into war. Most of the archers at Agincourt dreamed of loot and loose women (with a certain percentage dreaming of and committing grape). War is good for organized religion. Nothing brings people to the altar like war. Nothing spurs donations like caring for wounded soldiers... For everybody else on both sides of the war, war is the most terrible thing ever.
