  1. They create a system that is untenable for natives. You really see it in health care, where there's little incentive to work for the NHS for what the government is willing/able to pay. When you short-circuit free markets, i.e., individual price-based decision-making, pathology and unsustainability ensue. You see it in the long waits for procedures, the denial of some forms of services, and declining quality in products and services. Top-down never works for long periods.
