@zalfir The only time my grandfather ever cried (that I heard of) was when a church member accused him of being a cheapskate. Grandpa helped innumerable people over the years. Part of his Christian beliefs was that you don't brag about your giving. That's not true charity; rather, it's a massive virtue signal. That said, one of the great things about America is the charitable urge from those who are better off than others, and the status they garner by paying for the new x-ray machine or new wing for the local hospital, etc. That system of voluntary, conspicuous giving is far better than government bureaucrats.

When Grandpa passed away at 88, everyone was amazed at the stories that came out and the line of people around the block who loved the guy. All the people he had quietly helped over the years came out of the woodwork. Grandpa, it turned out, was the most generous member of the congregation.

I passed on both SHOGUN and DUNE. Both tampered with the characters and story lines too much for my taste.

@eba9121 Many of us talk too much about politics out of reaction to politics being rammed down our throats in entertainment.
