@BroonParker To admit they were wrong would undermine their entire world view, and force them to repudiate decades of wrong-headed ideas.
This is not something many people are capable of doing. It's easier to continue believing in the faith healer on stage is God's Chosen, than to listen or look at ANY evidence of how they're pulling off their many apparent miracles.
You can put the evidence right in front of them and people will conclude you're an Agent of Satan, twisting things for evil ends.
It's just like with any religion. People would rather die than disavow their faith in The Word, and their spiritual leaders, even - and especially - when their spiritual leaders are PROVEN to be charlatans.
With the decay of organized religion in the West, people still yearn for meaning in their lives, and political ideology has swooped in to fill the vacuum.
What "progressives" should do is split the party in two. Start a new party that's unswervingly left. Re-brand the original party as "centrist." That's a very broad tent. Even if Republicans continued to win a plurality, the newly constituted 2 parties would easily form a coalition to dominate both houses of Congress.
At the moment, Republicans enjoy the support of the broad middle. But it's a grudging support, made possible only by the Democrat Party's absurd policies and beliefs.
