There's nothing that says our government is too big than to have the outcome of a mere presidential election be so divisive that people get divorced over it. This is because the stakes are so high. The federal government has so much power that it makes a huge difference to "your side" if one party or the other wins. The stakes shouldn't be that high. The number of things that the federal gov't can muck up should be pared to a bare minimum, and that minimum be overseen by Congress with a microscope, and Congress be overseen by the people with a microscope. There shouldn't be so much going on that it's overwhelming to keep track of everything. There should be a handful of basic things that really don't need to change much, year to year. They can meet in January and be home by March. That's how it should work.
