He didn't say "On the side of Israel or the side of Palestine." He said "... on the side of Israel or wild critics."

What no one talks about is how Israel was founded in the 1940s, by external force, and gangs of criminals that if they weren't Jewish would be called terrorists. Since its founding, it has been sustained by monetary and military support of the USA. The USA pushed for its founding, no doubt at the urging of Britain, who have used USA and Israel as proxies for British interests in the Middle East. The conflict will never end. Israel will always be seen as the interloper with the backing of colonial empires, which it is. Israel will always see its neighbors as an existential threat, which they are. Meanwhile, we just keep throwing money and weapons at the region, with absolutely no end in sight. Just a never-ending excuse to go kill people.

Churchill was hand-in-glove with a British government that wanted World War I. They wanted to provoke the Kaiser, and they did so by every means at their disposal. You should read some of the memos and communications between the leadership of England and France in the years before World War I. They never forgave Prussia for beating France in the 1870s. I spent hours in the library looking the stuff up. The French wanted Alsace-Lorraine and the Saar Basin. The Saar voted to be part of Germany. So much for democracy! The British wanted to continue ruling the seas for as long as possible. This is why they wanted to take down Germany and why they wanted to keep Russia bottled-up. They want to keep Russia bottled-up to this day. As with most historical figures, it's never one thing or the other. It's always a mixed bag. As I grow (very) old, my opinion of Churchill, which started out as high as could be, has sunk to "He's another intellectual member of the aristocratic class, who did some good AND bad."
