@andrewkrolikiewicz6522 Politicians have done their best to corrupt and circumvent the U.S. Constitution since the nation's founding. It says something for the Constitution that it worked as well as it did for as many people for the better part of 200 years.

Incumbency gives you access to donors and the party machinery. Also, Lindsey and Mitch have been very populist in terms of handouts and other concessions that favor the people in their states. "I brought this state INDUSTRY! I brought this state JOBS! I got our farmers BIG SUBSIDIES!" As incumbents, they bring all kinds of goodies back to their constituents, often at the expense of supporting better legislation. They're Republicans who have always sided with Democrats on big domestic spending, so they bought votes at the low end with hand-outs and they appealed to conservatives by being war hawks, at times. Both of them fought hard to block Obama SCOTUS appointments and later, ram Trump's SCOTUS appointments through. On foreign affairs, both of them go along with the neocons. Graham is an embarrassment to the Republican Party and the American people.
