I think that in a world where people OUTside of one's country don't have OUR best interests at heart, you need some nationalism. Trouble is, it's nationalism/tribalism that is used to do harm to people in other countries, too. When people in different countries than ours live under rule sets that do not respect the rights and property of their people and who would kick our ass in open warfare if they could, then nationalism is necessary. It can go too far, though, so my praise of nationalism has its limits, as do I, and everyone and everything I've ever encountered.
