  1. Teacher's unions want merit pay. They just don't know how to implement it. Who judges what good teaching is? It's very subjective and NONE of them want a 3rd party observing the moves they make or the things they say in the classroom. That's why I LOVED the cognitive dissonance biting them in the behinds, when they went full-on ZOOM for their courses, and parents got to see what actually was going on. I don't want "merit pay." I want there to be a free, fair and open competition for education dollars. Charter schools, private schools, and all the rest, should get the SAME amount of subsidy from the taxpayer that the current monopoly gets. THAT will see the best money going to the best teachers, with head hunters actively recruiting the best teachers, and the WORST teachers remaining in the "traditional" schools, until those schools either improve or go out of business. Eventually, I'd like federal $$$ to be taken out of education. Let the locals handle it. Harlem had better schools BEFORE the Department of Education was created, and it's been downhill ever since.
