It's all a pyramid scheme, devised when the U.S. population was exploding, and it made sense (to people at the time) to use the current generation of workers to subsidize the care and support of the older generation. But government's always about robbing Peter to pay Paul. You can point to Paul and say "See how wonderful I am?" but Peter's life is of no consequence. The big problem we have, now, is poor and middle class expecting government to make their lives perfect, which is impossible, and very costly to try, which makes the lives of our children and grandchildren IMPOSSIBLE. Look at all the debt we ran up! Much could be saved by cuts in military spending. Much could be saved by cuts in entitlements. But both parties agree that both entitlements and military spending should grow by leaps and bounds every year.

@vincenzio3643 Nationwide 55 mph speed limit. Did the same thing with fishermen that Barney Frank did to poor home owners. The effect of his intervention (easy, low-interest loans so every fisherman could own his own boat) created massive over-fishing off the East coast. They scraped the sea-bottom clean, destroying fisheries. And Frank and Dodd's intervention in the mortgage markets created the financial crisis of 2008.
