  2. That's my thinking, also. If things don't work out, we can re-schedule the thorn-in-Kim's-side exercises for later. If things DO work out, then the need for joint exercises no longer exists.

  3. I'd throw 'em a bone and postpone the exercises, for a chance at re-defining the strategic landscape. The timing of the foot-dragging seems to coincide with some push-back against the Chinese on intellectual property rights. One of the things that's easy to overlook in the Korean peninsula and the Middle East is how WE would respond to a big Russian or Chinese military presence in Mexico. We wouldn't tolerate that shit for one second. We almost went nuclear against the then-Soviets for missiles in Cuba, back in the '60s. There's no stopping us from going back to the way things were if this falls through. But everybody benefits if the Koreas can finally find peace and the U.S. reduce its footprint where they do not hold sovereignty.

  4. A big part of N. Korea's issue with us is an inferiority complex, and face. If there's a face-saving way to get to the table, Trump will find it. Of course, it doesn't matter how Trump plays it, as far as mainstream media are concerned. They're going to hate whatever he does. Unlike his predecessor, he's not so eager to make a deal that he'll emasculate the U.S. in the process.
