It's an exciting time to be alive. Possibly a Great Awakening sweeping the planet, in fits and starts, but in general, folks are getting just a little too wise to what's up, and evolving faster than the traditional implements of control can handle. Fingers crossed. Praying the good guys make more headway than the power seekers.

Ralph Calhoun : I think most of us are OK with a general amnesty IF WE GET CONTROL OF THE BORDER AND ARRIVE AT A SANE IMMIGRATION POLICY. The thing is, for over 30 years, politicians have promised just that, but they NEVER get past the amnesty. "We'll put up fences, but you have to declare amnesty." Then they'd stonewall and devolve into bickering over the details of the "Immigration Reform Bill" and real reform - real border security - withered on the vine. And the amnesty only encouraged MORE people to come. People say how great immigration is, but when 70% of immigrants are on government assistance, that's a HUGE BILL. And it's no coincidence that the new arrivals invariably vote Democrat. This is about Democrat Party power and nothing else. And they don't care if they rule over ashes, so long as they rule. And people are fed up.

Ralph Calhoun : So here comes the inevitable bait-and-switch argument, pulling on our heartstrings for all the good immigrants. I love them, myself. I truly do. And I want to protect THEM from waves of illegal immigrants, just like the other 300-million-plus citizens already here. THIS time, security comes before amnesty. I hope and expect Trump will get the security before he signs any continuing resolution to re-open the government. And if you're a government worker about to miss out on a paycheck, then write the Democrat congressman you voted for and tell them to grow a backbone and do the right thing!

Defending the national soil is Job 1 for the federal government. Job 2 is defending the U.S. Constitution. Democrats do neither. But they want the federal government to make us safe from everything ELSE, and stick their noses into every aspect of our lives - un-asked, for my part.

The inducements Obama offered to the insurance companies just got pulled out from under them, with the abolishment of individual mandates (Soaking our children for our healthcare costs). So the bottom layer of Obama's fascist Ponzi scheme just got knocked out from under it. Insurance companies will surely respond. Their actuaries made a lot of calculations based on money from young, healthy people, that they can no longer rely on. And it's not even anything Trump or the Republicans did. It was a court case. A judge ruled the mandates as unconstitutional. You can't FORCE somebody to buy a particular product against their will.

It's not an acute crisis. It's a chronic problem. I hate to think using "crisis" fears would be the reason we finally drained the immigration swamp. Trump is forcing Democrats to have an actual conversation, and they're plumb outta talking points, plumb outta facts.

Sure there are NPC zombies who still think Accoster's a thing, but they're a small and shrinking group of ineffectives, and they can only do so much with them, beyond marching around in the streets and chanting not-too-long-or-difficult slogans. You know from "alt-right" reporters on the scene that those crowds are really only good at mobbing and not much else. They don't understand the issues, know any (unsanitized) history, and have no appreciation for individual self-worth or pride of accomplishment. They know carefully-managed-and-spoon-fed outrage, and little else.

He needs to be careful. If he uses executive orders to do it, it could blow back on him. Besides, this current stand-off is very much working against Democrats.

Not sure it's time, yet. He's winning on the public perception front. Best use that, rather than executive orders, because the Democrats would LOVE to point at that and say "He exceeds his authority! He's dangerous!" He has to be MORE restrained than Obama was. Show himself to be statesman rather than authoritarian.

By standing firm, he puts the Democrats in a very bad position. They're dead set on not letting him have his way, but they're out of rational arguments. The facts and the numbers are stacked against them, and the longer they hold out, the more people learn more facts. There are definitely some businesses that benefit by illegals depressing wages. But aside from those special interests, illegal immigration costs us 100s of billions of dollars, year in and year out. It puts a drain on localities that are disproportionately affected by the influx. But stories are coming out. People who live next to the border and in affected areas in the inner cities are not being heard, unless they're in Sanctuary! mode. Right now, they're trying - and failing - to suppress local San Diego reports, because people are saying things have gotten a lot better since they put up barriers. But they can't quite keep these stories from going viral on social media. Democrats are taking a big hit. Their control of legacy media does them no good - and actually hurts/exposes them - because its reach is a TINY fraction of what it was 10 or 20 years ago. They've lost a major advantage, and it may force them to concede this fight. We'll see. It's giving them a black eye. Or is that the 4 black eyes of sinister Schumer and Pelosi? No. Those are just the inevitable bags you get when you spend a combined 50 years as Washington, DC Swamp-Creature insiders. They know the money and they know where the bodies are buried. They are literally Ghouls of the Establishment. Democrats are Saruman, surrounded by Ents in Orthanc, unable to tell different lies to different people, because all peoples represented. Sure, they still have their "private" speeches to the bankers. THAT veil hasn't yet parted.

They could cut drug smuggling to next to nothing by legalizing, regulating and taxing drugs. Declare an end to LAW ENFORCEMENT'S WAR ON DRUGS (which is a war on the people) and make it a HEALTH ISSUE. Use funds from drug sales to open up clinics and halfway houses. Stop punishing drug users, until they break the law to support their habits. Alcohol's terrible. But we've come to terms with it, knowing it'll never be perfect, but knowing we do more harm by making it illegal than the harm it most definitely does when legal. Why are there so many shootings in this country? Gangsters fighting over the immense wealth that drug smuggling and distribution offer. Think about it. It also takes away 90% of the temptation for cops to enrich themselves illegally, which, considering they wear a badge and carry guns, makes them the most dangerous gangsters of all! Cops are no different than us (mostly). Put them in temptation, some will submit. Legalization re-defines the geometry. Now, the ONLY reason a cop is up in the housing project is because somebody needs help or got hurt. NOT to use the smell of some weed as an excuse to kick down somebody's door!
