  1. they're not gonna do away with those agencies, but the DO need to re-visit their responsibilities and authority. There's a very clear pattern of weaponizing the powerful investigative tools and the weight of their and other agencies against anybody the people in power choose. Mix in a cozy relationship with major media outlets, and the game is totally fixed. These are always dangers, but it is clear that those dangers haven't been addressed in the law and in the oversight. This weaponization has seemed more intrusive and more blatant under the Obama administration. Bush used 9/11 to get the Patriot Act on-line, but Obama really took it and ran with it. But it's not as if such tactics weren't employed BEFORE the Patriot Act. And only the excesses under what I'm starting to believe was an absentee chief executive, incapable of managing a big organization, finally brought it to the inescapable attention of independent media, which is slowly shaming the withering mainstream media into admitting they're full of shit.

  3. Yes, Christopher White: HEAT WAVE in NYC during the depths of the Great Depression. People sleeping in parks, on fire escapes and not a closed window for miles. Crime didn't go up. People woke up and went about their business the next day. Folks looked out for one another. Now that gummint's doin' all the lookin' out, the only lookin' out you see in the streets is the guy lookin' out for the cops.
