  1. Meh. The purists have been whining about the bastardization of the language since the written word. Society doesn't give a flying leap about the purists. If it's faster to type "u r grat" with your thumbs, that bastardization will take place. And it's OK. The language always evolves towards more efficiency on the informal side, and precision on the formal side. And when it's not formal, the only thing that matters is the efficiency. "Them're good groceries!" is more heartfelt and real to most folks than "Thank you for the wonderful repast." Heck, half of us would wonder if the other person were sneering at us, because maybe we're not hip to the 60-dollar word, "repast," and be a bit put off, and say something noncommittal in return, to avoid looking stupid in front of the snobby brainiac.
