  2. The guy at the end has a finger on the issue. We are a society with enough knowledge to reject the extended metaphors from ancient scripture. What we haven't yet achieved is in finding purpose and meaning and the proper set of principles to operate in a healthy way without the dogmatic "God said." People see life ends, and without religion, you have to be pretty high up Maslow's ladder to be OK with that, and CHOOSE to live a moral, productive, un-psychotic life. Maybe the Gift of Life is just that. A gift. A gift that always - always - wears out. How to encompass that AND not become a hedonist or a nihilist or just a freakin' neurotic? AND how to structure your society. Those who reject religion unconsciously put their faith in gov't. We need objectivism and capitalism, which is really the only sane way to frame and sustain a secular society for the long run.

  3. Uh. Correction (Before Penn Gillette back-hands me): People who reject the old forms TEND to put their faith in gov't. The truly enlightened end up pretty atheist and at the same time highly moral (not in a reject-kinky-sex sort of way, but in a do-good-things-and-respect-others way), thru objectivist philosophy.

  5. Trump's a populist. Some of it's good. This isn't. But let things play out. He has a way of getting further in the right direction by posturing this way and that way. He's got to deflect the unprecedented propaganda after this last shooting in Florida. See where it ends up. See what he'll actually sign. Same as before, with other issues.
