@elchucofried5683 Depends on the school district. But yes, as the schools become less and less effective, more and more programs ARE being cut from K-12 and postsecondary institutions. "No money for metal shop or band or sports, this year." We need to focus our resources on the bare minimum (and for our ever-expanding management. We just added a wonderful DIE administrator, and he of course needs a much bigger staff than the 50 he started with.)

@ravenoffire87 I don't think I had bad math teachers, but I was definitely more interested in girls, sports and the weekend kegger than I was in math! I eventually earned a math degree, even thought it was my weakest area on the SAT coming out of high school. I still took the college-prep math, but B's and C's due to laziness and distractions. All my other subjects required little or no work. College math, along with my musical training, really taught me how to teach myself challenging skills and concepts. So did working part time in high school and college. Start out sweeping up the shop and graduate to Lube-Oil-and-Filter. Practical stuff.

@lonniewild9277 I DO like the idea of more trade schools, but no, I don't want Trump or anyone else in the government deciding what they can teach or how they teach it. We need to CUT federal funding of ALL schools. It's not the federal government's place. Federal intervention in education is a major reason why the schools we have now are failing, and they would ruin trade schools if you gave them over to some fancy new Operation Warpspeed Trump (or Biden) University.

@hotrox2112 One-size-fits-all education is what they insist on while celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of every student, to exhaustion. DIE and other intersectional nonsense argues against the existence of the institutions, themselves, when you get right down to it. "You agree everyone's unique?" "YES!" "Then why do you stick 30 people in one room and give them all the exact same lecture?" "BECAUSE, YOU RACIST! BECAUSE! IF YOU DO NOT DESIST, I'M CALLING THE FBI!" FWIW, I would include music and fine arts as a career path for some.

The most glaring shortage I see is in the trades. People who make and fix Real, Tangible Things, like houses and appliances. The system has done everything possible to discourage skilled American work and workers. But they persist. Every time I move to a new town, I figure out who's reliable and competent, and I cultivate them and their knowledge and connections to other good tradespeople. They're typically the first and longest-lasting friends I make. I'm an academic, but if you come to one of my barbecues, it's wall-to-wall what my colleagues call "rednecks." There are some white collars in there, like the guy who handles my IT needs. He's not a liberal-arts-degree type, though. Just a guy who's been building computers for people since the 1980s and knows how to build it, populate it with software, etc. Because he works for ME and not my institution, he actually knows what's on it, what my needs are, and what they're likely to be. Weird how that works. To IT at work, I'm a pain in the neck. To my guy, I'm easy to work with...
