I don't think they care about loss of credibility in the future, because they only care about winning today. They must think being in power now is all they need in order to stay in power, permanently, and they're pulling every lever at their disposal to achieve it. They don't have to be credible if they're unassailable.

@guhamurugan8671 Robber barons outside and demagogues inside the government have been chipping away at the U.S. Constitution almost since the day the ink dried. "To preserve the Union" they systematically centralized the power that the U.S. Constitution dispersed amongst the people and the several states. From Day 1, the rich and the mighty have used any and every perceived "crisis" to grab a little more power for the federal government that our nation was designed to LIMIT. We stopped being "the good guys" back in the 1960s, if not sooner, and we used Communism as the excuse. Now they use any excuse: poverty, terrorism's a big one, ... You name it. Any excuse to make congressmen look "generous" (with other people's money) or "strong."
