Years later, as more facts came to light, it became pretty clear that the Soviet military threat was exaggerated and the Soviet subversion threat was pretty much ignored. Our intelligence agencies have gotten it wrong on virtually every major security issue facing the USA for 50 years or more. The CIA is good at two things: generating narratives and covering its own incompetence.
