So, ratchet up the hateful/fear-mongering rhetoric, blame it on everybody else, and use it as an excuse to crush, for instance, free speech, or the right to keep and bear arms. These are two of the most important pillars of liberty.

  2. Yes, it's definitely asymmetric. The left can make all kinds of inflammatory statements because they're so SURE they're morally superior, but when a conservative states a basic, fact-based truth, well that's automatically inflammatory hate speech, by the lights of the left. Luckily, the left has lost the monopoly on public discourse, so their age-old tactics of smear, mischaracterize and mis-report is no longer operating in a vacuum, except for the benighted souls who are still in thrall to the traditional media.
