I had a cracked fibula that didn't show up on x-rays before they could scope like they do, now. I limped around for over a month, so they sent me to a specialist. They could see the fracture from the healing callus pretty easily in the x-ray. The regular doctor would've seen it on an x-ray, if they'd done that, instead of sending me to the specialist. But you can know you ain't right, and the doctors not know it.
That happened to Justin Houston in KC, where they repaired his ACL, but missed the MCL and tried to get him on the field in a brace. He finally got it diagnosed, but the doctors got it wrong, and he was expected to go out on the field and play, even though he had to know he wasn't right.
