The corporation isn't greedy. The people running it are. The way to fight a corporation is to not do business with them. That might mean paying a little extra, rather than just shopping for the cheapest prices on Amazon.

It'd be easy enough to bypass Ticketmaster with today's technology, in my opinion. I think they're going to go bankrupt, here, before long, because musicians and their fans will just start bypassing them and big venues giving it exclusive rights.

It's this way in many industries. The fines will wipe out a small business, but a big business just includes it in the cost of operation. If you make $5 million by illegal dumping and the fine is $50,000, that's a good deal for you. If you get a $50,000 fine but only make $30,000 for illegal dumping, then you don't do any illegal dumping. All the regulation does is make sure that big businesses can misbehave for big profits, squeezing all the little guys out.

@JusticeMcBridee Every dollar the government spent on medicine and space technology was 2 dollars taken from people who otherwise might have done it, themselves, and in such a way as to make it sustainable and pay for itself.

@zeo1087 CITIZENS UNITED case needs to be overturned. 501-c3's need to be revisited. We need to allow people to pool their resources for political speech, through many small donations, but we need to disallow rich people from using the same mechanisms to pump dark money into the public square, where one person's voice is amplified to drown out all others. If you work for a corporation, you are free to donate out of your own pocket to any political cause you wish, but you should not be able to use corporate funds to run political campaigns. I think that what happened was the court wanted people to still be able to pool their resources for a political action committee, which I agree with, but the same laws shouldn't be twisted to give the super-rich or for-profit corporations to drown out everyone else. I think there should be a cap on all donations to these NGOs. I don't think for-profit businesses or corporations should be able to donate to any political cause or even any charity. If the management wants to donate to any cause, let them do so out of their own pockets. Let them use their individual speech to encourage others to do the same. I include labor unions in this. If the members want to donate as individuals, let them. But the union leadership shouldn't have that power. I've been a union member who disagreed with many of the political stances of the union leadership, but I had no control over the propaganda they were spreading.

Farmers also need to diversify and update. Branch out into the permaculture realm, with new, local markets, rather than try to compete with bigger machines and more chemicals with Big Ag in world markets. World markets have price levels that are hard to make profitable, because you're competing with the whole rest of the world's luckiest farmers that year. But you do have a lot of advantages in distribution costs. Every penny rise in the cost of gasoline makes you more competitive against all comers from overseas or down in Florida or southern California.

Of COURse it ran better in the beginning. But state intervention always entails a hierarchy, and all a corporation needs to do is subvert a handful of too-powerful people at the top of that hierarchy. Nothing wrong with a local grange, entered into freely by farmers voluntarily cooperating LOCALLY, but you dingbats always think "Gee, if we centralized the operation, think of all the GOOD we can do!" That's how the bad creeps in!

It's not "privatized" when they exploit/subvert government agencies. It's fascism. It's not voluntary cooperation when it's mandated by government. The problem is putting the government in charge, so that you only have to bribe one or a handful of people to have your will imposed by force on everyone else. FREE markets don't allow that. Not for long. New people enter the market with alternatives. Government involvement crushes alternatives. I appreciate what you're saying, but I'm already skeptical about any solutions you might offer, because you're enamored of the very things that led us to this pass.

You can't cry about prices going up in the same breath in which you celebrate ski patrol getting a long-overdue pay raise. Ski resorts have always had an abundance of cheap labor, because they offered free access to the slopes to their employees. There's no shortage of 18-year-olds who love skiing enough to take a gig like that at a great mountain resort. What do they care if all they've got is a cot and a squat? Give them a discount at the lodge for food and beverages. They've got plenty of places to go hang out. A whole bunch of tourist traps where they know the kid behind the counter by name. It probably seems like a dream job to some. I could see wasting a couple years on the mountain just for the joy of it. Pay a handful of the best and most experienced ski patrol to run the rescue operations... Anyway, there's a reason these ski resorts are boom-and-bust or pay-through-the-nose. It ain't cheap to run such a place.
