A 2-yr degree in a trade pays off far better and sooner than most bachelors degrees.

@npip99 : I agree. If your choice is between making money for 4 years and getting a communications degree, I'd recommend just working.

@marcusstrinidad : It would hurt your pride, but maybe just get any job at all, stay with your folks for 4 years. Build up a stake. Or - gasp - get a job as a teenager. I know a guy who started as a box boy at age 14, worked in grocery for 25 years, and retired at 40.

@Nickerson571 : Depends on the job within the field. You don't need a degree to sweep the floor in a nuclear reactor, either. But designing them? Your valuable experience as a technician tells you what buttons to push and what gauges mean what. Procedural stuff.

The last time (in the '90s) I sat through a graduation, I think 75% of the degrees were in "communications." I wasted all that time on earth science and mathematics. I didn't even know there was a degree in communications and I still don't really know what it is.
