There is such a thing as hateful speech, but the buzz-phrase "hate speech" is a blanket term covering anything a so-called 'liberal' disagrees with.
Liberty. Limited government. Tolerance of people different than you. The notion that the Natural rights of humans exist independent of - above, essentially - the desires and declarations of the state. These are true liberal values. The trouble is that the people who believe these principles are called "MAGA Republicans" and "conservatives" and "regressive." The supposed "liberals" have destroyed the meaning of words and ideas.
Everything so-called "liberals" stand for is anti-liberal. Every excess of government-corporate cooperation and collusion is called "runaway capitalism," when the distortions and corruption we see are because of government interventions these so-called "liberals" begged for.
Did you know that there was never such a thing as health insurance until Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in true authoritarian fashion, imposed wage freezes during the Great Depression (that would've been just a recession if FDR hadn't "helped save us."). Big corporations got a HUGE advantage in those days by offering health and pension benefits that circumvented the wage freeze. Before those days, each community did its best to provide health care through charitable work, locally.
It wasn't perfect. But doctors could charge what they wished. They charged less to people who didn't have much, and they were richly rewarded by community effort and a handful of wealthy clients and donors. You didn't get status by demanding the federal government do more. You got status by making donations and getting your name engraved in the cornerstone of the new wing of the hospital. It was a point of pride for healthy communities. Now? It's all decided by bureaucrats in Washington, who gets what, what the prices will be, and even - to our horror - what medical treatments are allowed and what treatments aren't.
Good luck finding off-the-shelf cures if the bureaucrats decide they really want to push One Drug on everyone. These are the same people who told us animal fats are bad for us but sugary cereals are "part of a balanced breakfast."
