  1.  @KMessi6  I dunno. TIK brought YOU pretentious bastards out! I love reading these comments. You can learn a lot. I think TIK does a lot of reading, and he's not perfect. Still informative, especially when people are so forthcoming with fact-checks in the comments. I did a modest amount of undergrad research in History of Modern Europe class. I dug up what the PMs of France and Britain were saying to each other in the years prior to the guns of August. So I've done some work on the one thing. My respect for all y'all who are actual scholars of history, which I know I'm not. I'm an enjoyer of what you scholars put together for ign'ants.

  2. I'm curious as to why sagging agriculture was such an issue in the first place. Sure, the top-down, government-run "solution" was catastrophically bad, but food shortages were a problem before they started their authoritarian fiddling with the economy. I'm aware of the landscape, at least superficially, after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, but what went on between then and 1914 is pretty much blank in my mind.
