  3.  @winstonsmith8482  Germany wasn't self-sufficient, and given the behavior of its neighbor countries, it wasn't crazy to feel that lack of resources was a threat to their prosperity and security. Acting on that fact set by invading your neighbors is a dick move, though.

  4.  @tstocker6926  Government-run education, health and media elicit submission by appealing to the individual's sense of duty. The Germanic tribes from which they descend have a strong sense of duty bred into them, with status accruing to the unselfish. The Nazis used what was best in their people to achieve the worst.
