  1. The British were and are pretty universally resented in the region. After WW II, the USA took on the British Empire Project, at least that's what it looks like to me. It wasn't - and isn't - our place to draw the map at our whim in the region. The USA doesn't need a colonial empire. We just went mad with power in the 1940s, and took our cue from the last of the Victorians.

As for "If Russia holds onto its gains," you should hear Lindsey Graham ranting about the important minerals we must keep out of Russian hands! Maybe Graham and his pals in the Deep State should've thought about this before 2014, when Ukraine still owned Crimea and lived at peace with its neighbors. THEY were the ones who provoked the annexation of Crimea and the subsequent hostilities, trying to run Ukraine by remote control and use it as a hammer against the Russians.

  9. What makes you illiberal, Jimmy (and George) is your deluded belief that big government is a good idea, and that all we need to do is somehow find saintly geniuses to run it. This is why you progressives are "stuck on the wheel." You feed the dragon and then complain about getting burned all the time. You even say "Feed the dragon MORE. The problem is you didn't feed it ENOUGH." Meanwhile, your country is bankrupt and your great-grandchildren won't be able to pay off the debt your feel-good policies created on the domestic front. I'm with you on the liberty part and the war & peace front, but you still haven't figured out that you can't have liberty and at the same time have the government be your nanny. All the infringements on our liberties during COVID were the flip side of "Take care of me, Daddy." When you're cared for by Daddy, you have the rights and authority of a child. "Why do I always bleed when I cut off a finger? Let's try cutting off another finger. See if that works. Nope. Didn't work. Let's lop off another finger. Still bleeding. Bleeding worse. I guess we'll have to amputate at the wrist." You've made government your Daddy and now you wonder why we spin from one crisis to the next, with no end in sight, dwindling prosperity, and more hunger fore government programs than ever before in history.
