@maxt707 The majority of people in the projects are good people. But ALL of the bad people who have no respect for others or themselves end up in the projects. One partial solution would be to re-engineer leases so that a fraction of what you put into rent every month goes to equity in the property or some kind of interest-bearing account. Rent long enough and you own your apartment or have a big, fat check for walking-away money. I think that would make a huge difference in the upkeep of rental properties and subsidized housing. Make it so the people who live there actually have some skin in the game. Make them all capitalists in their own, small way. The path to financial independence for 90% of people in the world is home ownership.
