When I was 8, it was Chief Jay Strongbow and Andre the Giant. Strongbow on the warpath was fun, and Andre was a true spectacle, but even at that age, I could tell it was more of a play than an actual competition. Maybe if I'd come along later, after they all started looking like body-builders instead of beer drinkers. I actually respect them, more, now, than I did growing up, because even as a planned performance, those guys are taking real risks throwing their 300-pound bodies around like they do. But I still don't see the attraction for so many people.
