  1.  1FORREST1  Alexis de Tocqueville predicted this in the 19th Century. Once people learn they can vote themselves a living, it's a long slide to serfdom. We're just at the bottom of the slide, but this was totally predictable, due to human nature. But yes. While the Soviets sucked in economics, they understood psychology very well. That was always the main threat from the Soviet Union. But history moves very rapidly in the current era, despite the 24-hour news cycle making each day an eternity. You can own all the institutions and media, but you can't make those institutions run efficiently or effectively over long spans of time. The people who rise to the top are always the worst kinds of people, and they destroy their institutions from within. That's the problem with subverting institutions for your benefit. That very act destroys the power of the institutions on which you rely. China would've fallen 30 or 40 years ago, if we hadn't propped up their criminal enterprise. Soviets lasted about 70 years. Who knows how long the current tyranny will stand before it topples of its own weight? We see it as a giant juggernaut rolling over us, but the people at the controls are even now discovering that the more you pull those levers, the less well they work.

  3. Mom was my pre-school teacher. When I hit kindergarten I was the smartest kid there, and went on to "gifted-and-talented" programs, later on. I don't think I'm especially smart. I just learned how to learn very early, and was encouraged.
