Everything you need from the government? That's serfdom. "Shut up, because we are taking care of you." Krupp Steel, the corporation on whose employee benefits the Nazis based their socialist system, exacted a loyalty oath from all employees before they were afforded free health care and education. Company stores with cheap prices on quality goods. Implicit in every government hand-out is the expectation - nay, requirement - of obedience. To take the King's schilling, you first bend the knee to the king. Self-rule is messy and far from perfect. It's also better than anything else.
