He's probably more electable than Trump, due to intense, deep-seated despite for him amongst Democrats. But Trump sucks up all the oxygen in the Republican Party, by tirelessly campaigning, all year, every year. DeSantis would be more likely to understand how to deal with the Swamp. He was a senator for a time, before running for governor. Not too long in the Senate, and the strong leadership he's shown as governor says he knows the government-CEO gig. I think he'd do a better job picking his team and wouldn't waste time firing somebody who was undermining him, the way Trump did. That whole "Keep your enemies closer" thing sounds clever, but you really need to surround yourself with good people who are pulling for you and your program.

I like DeSantis. But I sometimes question how much we help the people who build in hurricane country and get wiped out by hurricanes. Seems to me they chose those risks when they built there, and it's between them and their insurers, and not the job of South Dakota. I think it's great if South Dakota wants to help, but after the umpteenth hurricane in the same area, are federal tax dollars just a piggybank for these hurricane-prone states? Maybe somebody can set me straight. I know the feds came in with grants and low-interest loans after Hurricane Agnes, in '72, but I think accepting that money came with the understanding that it was a one-shot deal. Another flood and we'd be on our own. Is that how it works? I just hear FEMA's on its way to Florida or Texas or wherever these hurricanes light.
