Yes. And all the trace elements become depleted, because we take them out of the soil and ship them all over the world.

GMO foods have the pesticide built into them. Yummy! This is one issue where I think Stossel is getting it at least partly wrong.

@samwroblewski748 So you think it's good that the plant, itself, has pesticide built into it? What do you think that means for the people who eat that plant? It's not the genetic modification, per se, that's concerning. It's that we're eating plants that contain pesticides and congratulating ourselves that we're not poisoning ourselves with pesticides.

@robl4479 It's not that the insects don't want it, necessarily. Maybe it just has a chemical that sterilizes the insects who eat it. But it's fine for humans to eat.
