We are Israel's proxy and Israel is our proxy. Each gives the other tacit approval to be a perennial aggressor in the Middle East. Each clings to fake deniability of the worst actions of the other. The slaughter is necessary to preserve a Jewish ethno-state. Apartheid is necessary to preserve a Jewish ethno-state. Something I learned early in my math career was that if you wish to disprove a proposition, assume the proposition holds. If the proposition does not hold, you will inevitably arrive at an absurdity. The absurdity proves the falsity of the proposition, if you reason logically from the proposition. Human slaughter is the absurdity; therefore it is rooted in a false proposition: "Ethno-state is paramount. All else is subordinate to that over-arching and absolute need."

@coffee6783 Britain made promises to every ethnic group in the Middle East, to topple the Ottomans. "Fight the Ottomans and win nationhood." The only tribe they tried to keep that promise to, and it was only after World War II, with American might to back the Balfour Declaration, was Israel. In many respects, American foreign policy was just an extension of Victorian foreign policy, spearheaded by guys like Winston Churchill, who looked at the map of the region like he was deciding where to put the pool and the garden in his back yard.
