Dunno. Maybe a friend or kind neighbor gave him shelter. It wouldn't be the first time a 15-year-old spent 5 days couch-surfing. But usually you see that in the drug scene, either the folks are druggies and would never go to the cops (and may not even notice or care that the kid's missing), or the kid's couch-surfing at a drug den or a home connected to a drug den that morphs into a flophouse and drug-den-in-waiting. These places rise and fall all the time, and juvenile delinquents and runaways have a way of showing up in such places.
Meh. All I heard was that the boy thought he was getting a lotta grief from his mom. I don't know enough about the story to say. A parent who's trying to control an out-of-control 15-year-old is perilously close to the cliffs. If the teenager wishes, they can sic CPS on their parents. I knew the father of a 15-year-old girl, who went after him that way, because she wanted to sleep with a 20-year-old man. He told her AND the man "No," and so she called CPS and started flinging accusations. CPS was 100% in her corner. He eventually gave up and let her have her way, so he could stay free and wash his hands of her at 18 with minimum harm to him and the rest of the family.
But it seems like most people following the story don't think much of the parents. I just don't know enough to say, so of course, I say more than anybody else. I'll show myself to the door, thank you.
