@The Pigeon King We are definitely a car culture and a gun culture. So many don't want to or can't afford to live close to where they work. They find "the perfect place" and would rather drive extra every day, than live close in a neighborhood they don't like or can't afford. For many decades, the $$$ spent on the daily commute was very affordable and well worth the price. And people use the "down time" as a relaxing time spent alone, without having to deal with anyone right before or right after work. I've never been big on the commute, myself, but many a time I have walked home from work and immediately hopped in the pickup and headed up the canyon to the woods, which is almost the same thing! While I'm suspicious of all the Great Reset types out there, I am pleased to see us shifting more towards remote work where possible. It's very green. It has its problems, too, but nothing's perfect. It's a little ridiculous to drive to a job where you sit in front of a computer all/most of the day.
