I can see where one or three techno/materials-science breakthroughs could make something like this possible. And that is a lot of surface area for power generation, if they could solve the technical issues. I like the out-of-the-box thinking, but experimental trials have produced some very expensive courtyards that occasionally generate a small amount of power.

@karimjerbi7084 Asphalt is soft. That's why it's the go-to material for road-building. They can extrude it relatively quickly and cheaply. You can use harder stuff. They've used harder stuff in the past. The Pennsylvania Turnpike was built in 1940 and they used concrete. It lasted 20 or 30 years before becoming a running joke in the state for all the potholes.
