@joefran619 Crony Capitalism. Yes. It's what you always get when you trust the government to regulate everything, instead of free markets in a free speech setting. Robber barons fear the wrath of customers far more than they fear a government they can manipulate. The way the grift works is this: Influence the legislators and regulatory officials to get the rules you want, and then you're protected by the government under the laws and regulations. Do government-imposed labeling requirements for food products protect the consumer or are they written in such a way as to hide the chemicals and genetic engineering that's going on? In a strict liability, free-market society, the worst abuses are identified quickly and the companies engaging in them lose their reputations and die. But you can pull all kinds of nastiness if you have 100 lawyers and compliance officers making sure that you're "fully compliant," which seems like a great thing on the surface, but what if the government actually approves things that are bad for you? You can't touch the corporation!

Social Security was set up as a Ponzi scheme from the very start. It only works if the next generation is bigger than the previous generation. The Baby Boomers are the "Me" generation. We voted ourselves as many freebies as possible and told ourselves we were doing the "compassionate" thing, even though all the freebies (and forever war on top) created a permanent annual deficit and ballooning national debt. Now we're retirement age, and we INSIST that we get gold-plated health care. It's all going to come tumbling down, eventually. And we have FDR's king-for-life plans and gullible voters to blame. Globalism is just nationalism on steroids. Both are ways of tricking the common people into making sacrifices for the benefit of a tiny political class.
