  1.  @marcusizayah  I've definitely gone up to the counter without enough cash, before. Maybe left my cash in another pair of jeans or just not had as much as I thought. I'd just leave the luxury items (potato chips/beer/soda-pop/... and only take the fresh food/produce. I always offered to put it all back on the shelf and the cashier told me "We'll take care of it, sir" all but once or twice. When I was less well off, it happened a few times.
