I respect those kinds of Democrats, but I still think their ideology is fundamentally flawed. They sure can see when the government is overstepping, but they always vote for the government to hold more power over more aspects of our lives. So they create, feed and groom the tiger that will kill them by accident or on purpose, when it's full-grown. They put too much power in the hands of too few, and then they're all pissed-off, when the wrong people get ahold of that power. Democrat VOTERS don't seem to understand that such power is a MAGNET to the wrong kinds of people and corrosive to the BEST people.

Even those who are not consciously Marxist hold to many or even most of the main tenets, whether they know it or not. They're not consciously fascist, and yet they slowly, year by year, fashion an all-knowing, all-controlling government system that would make Adolf Hitler proud. Free Medical? Check. Welfare for single moms and plenty of gov't programs to indoctrinate the kids? Check. Control of the media? Check. We became a lot like the Nazis in most outward forms. And it only takes some hard times for all the ugly to come out.

When the central government legislates on everything under the sun, the lobbyists are ESSENTIAL. They're also major corrupters. The mistake is legislating on everything under the sun, which means you either pass laws out of ignorance or you consult with the captains of industry. It's bad enough when all we ask the feds to do is protect our borders. That's the one thing the feds don't WANT to do, but they want to get involved in everything else, where I don't want them.

The Iraq war(s) were scary in that regard, with all the major networks in lock-step, pro war, and the way people who watched the networks waving flags and hanging on stories from "embedded reporters."

21:30: Selective reporting on the news is as old as the news. "Objective reporting" is a myth they've been pushing since the government got cozy with the major networks, which was about 5 minutes after ABC, CBS and NBC got started. The big outfits have been buddy-buddy with government since Day 1. The press become insiders and in return for reporting what the power players want, they get special access, and get to rub shoulders with the Main Actors.

"Journalistic integrity" is sort of an oxymoron, by definition of the press, and the curmudgeonly role it plays.
