  1. We all knew the spigot would eventually run dry. Top officials are still living in denial of reality, but they can't lie to themselves about the politics, which are following economic realities. There's zero appetite for it in the mass of people, and cobbling together neocon ruling coalitions is growing increasingly difficult, even though they're very good at keeping the peace-mongers out of power.
