  2. The only way to legitimize themselves is a crisis sufficiently great to get the people to rally to the flag. War's a favorite tool for this purpose. But I think it's getting harder and harder to manufacture consent, these days.

  8. Russia's not in the echo chamber in which the USA's policy-makers reside. USA, EU, and Canada are in the chamber. The rest of the world recognizes the clownishness of Western Establishment.
