@joesixpack8305 All the "good stuff" is around the perimeter of most stores. All the fresh meat, fresh produce, and dairy is on the outside wall. All the processed junk is in the aisles. If you're on a budget and you're a good scratch cook, 90% of your budget is spent on the fresh stuff.
Spices, condiments, and canned goods are in the aisles, too, but they're mere accompaniments. All the processed foods cost more for what you get out of them.
Now that price is no object, I buy way too much junk. I was a lot more disciplined when I was living on $30,000 a year. I ate well, but soft drinks and potato chips were never in my cart. I'd buy a pot roast and veggies. Make the pot roast on Sunday. Leftovers on Monday, and make a pot of stew for the next few days.
One pot roast and I could feed myself for close to a week. Then my one night out for steak and a few beers. Pretty boring fare, but it kept me pretty fit.
